Coming soon — local-first screen recording

Slice your screen into steps, not just a recording.

SliceStep watches your real clicks, captures a step for each one, and builds an interactive walkthrough automatically — entirely on your device. Nothing is ever uploaded.

Windows desktop app. Launching on the Microsoft Store.

Nothing uploaded, ever

How it works

Three steps. Literally.

No manual screenshot-and-annotate workflow. SliceStep builds the walkthrough while you work.

01

Capture

Record your screen normally. SliceStep tracks your real clicks in the background and takes a screenshot for each one — not a screenshot every time a pixel changes, so idle time and cursor blinks never turn into extra steps.

02

Process

Instructions fill in automatically from the real control you clicked — its actual name and type, read directly from Windows, not guessed from a screenshot. Nothing here needs AI or an internet connection.

03

Export

Ship it as an interactive HTML5 walkthrough, a checklist, an MP4, a GIF, a PDF, or Markdown — seven formats total, all generated locally, all yours to keep.

Built for how documentation actually gets made

Every feature earns its place

🖱️

Click-driven capture

One step per real interaction, seeked to the exact moment it happened — not a frame-diffing guess.

🎙️

Your actual voice

Narrate as you record, or per step afterward. Local transcription, and optional filler-word and dead-air trimming.

🔒

Built-in redaction

Scan a step for emails, phone numbers, and card or account numbers, then black them out before you ever export.

AI where it earns it

Optional, off by default. When it's on, it's a fallback for icon-only controls — not the thing standing between you and a finished walkthrough.

📤

Seven export formats

Interactive HTML5, autoplay, checklist, quick demo, video, GIF, PDF, Markdown. Pick the format the moment calls for.

💾

Own it outright

One-time purchase. No monthly bill for software that runs entirely on your own machine.

The whole reason this exists

Nothing leaves your device. Not ever, not by accident.

Most screen-recording tools send your screen to someone else's server. SliceStep doesn't have a server for your content to go to — everything runs, and stays, on the machine you're using.

  • Screen recordings are processed locally with a bundled copy of ffmpeg — never transmitted.
  • Voice narration is transcribed on-device with a local Whisper model.
  • Optional AI features (Florence-2) run entirely on your machine — the model downloads once, your content never leaves.
  • Click data used to build steps never leaves the app, let alone the device.
  • Projects and exports are saved to your own disk. There's no SliceStep account, because there's no SliceStep server.
