Terms of Use

Last updated: [DATE — fill in on publish]
This is a draft starting point, not a substitute for legal advice. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Have it reviewed before publishing, especially the disclaimer, liability, and governing-law sections, and fill in every bracketed placeholder below.

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the SliceStep desktop application ("SliceStep," "the app," "the software") and the slicestep.com website. By downloading, installing, or using SliceStep, you agree to these Terms.

1. License

Subject to your compliance with these Terms and payment of any applicable purchase price, [Company/Publisher Name] grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use SliceStep on devices you own or control, for your personal or internal business purposes.

This license does not grant you any right to the source code, to redistribute the software, or to sublicense it to others.

2. Your content

Recordings, narration, screenshots, and walkthroughs you create with SliceStep are yours. We claim no ownership over anything you create using the app. Because SliceStep processes everything locally, we also have no access to this content — we can't retrieve it, back it up, or recover it for you if it's lost.

3. Your responsibility when recording

SliceStep records what's on your screen and, optionally, your voice. You're responsible for making sure you have the right to record and share whatever content you capture — including software, data, or other people's information that may appear on screen during a recording. Don't use SliceStep to record or share anything you don't have the right to.

4. AI-generated and automated content

Some content SliceStep produces — instruction text drafted by AI Suggest, transcriptions, redaction detection — is generated automatically and may be inaccurate or incomplete. This includes the redaction feature, which detects only pattern-matchable data (like email addresses) and does not detect all forms of sensitive information, including names or other free text. Always review generated content, and any redacted output, before relying on or sharing it.

5. Prohibited use

You agree not to:

  • Use SliceStep for any unlawful purpose, or to record or distribute content you don't have the right to;
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where applicable law expressly permits it;
  • Redistribute, resell, or sublicense the software itself;
  • Use SliceStep to develop a competing product.

6. Third-party components

SliceStep includes third-party open-source software and AI models, each under its own license. A full list is available in the app's About screen.

7. No warranty

SliceStep is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't warrant that the software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that any AI-generated or automated output will be accurate.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, [Company/Publisher Name] will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising from your use of SliceStep — including damages resulting from content you recorded, shared, or failed to redact using the app.

9. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your license if you materially breach these Terms. You may stop using SliceStep and uninstall it at any time.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of SliceStep after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

[Placeholder — specify the jurisdiction whose laws will govern these Terms, and where any disputes will be resolved.]
